Hospital Management System

The Problem

As a healthcare software development company, we kept seeing the same problem across engagements: multiple facilities running disconnected legacy systems for patient records, bed management, and appointments — none of which talked to each other. Staff re-entered the same patient data across systems, department status lived on whiteboards and shared spreadsheets, and leadership had no real-time view across facilities.

The technical root cause was almost always the same: each facility's EHR or clinical system was a closed island with no standardized way to exchange patient data with the others. Building point-to-point integrations between every pair of systems doesn't scale past two or three facilities — it needed a single interoperability layer every facility could plug into once, not a growing mesh of custom one-off connections.

System Architecture

We built the Hospital Management System around an HL7/FHIR-based interoperability layer that sits between each facility's existing clinical systems and a single unified Patient Record Service — so facilities keep their existing EHR investment instead of a disruptive rip-and-replace, while still contributing to one real-time patient record across the network.

Every write from a facility's existing EHR passes through the interoperability layer, which normalizes it into a FHIR resource before it reaches the Patient Record Service — so the service itself never has to understand each facility's native data format. Role-based access control and audit logging sit alongside the record service rather than bolted on afterward, since healthcare compliance requirements (who accessed what, when) apply to every read and write, not just the ones someone remembers to log. The admin dashboard reads from the same unified record, giving administrators live bed availability and department status across every connected facility, not just their own.

• MySQL — the system of record for unified patient data, chosen for strong relational integrity across admissions, encounters, and billing records that all have to stay consistent
• Next.js — the real-time admin dashboard, chosen for fast server-rendered pages that stay responsive even as more facilities and data volume get added
• AWS — hosting with a phased, facility-by-facility deployment model, so each new facility's rollout is isolated from the ones already live
