Designer Studio & Tailor Management Software
LaunchPad's own designer studio and tailor management platform — configurable measurement profiles, order tracking, and a live pricing engine that boutique studios can deploy under their own brand.
The Problem
Tailoring and design studios kept losing measurement details and order history the same way most small studios do: paper measurement cards, WhatsApp threads with clients, and a notebook of pending alterations. A single misplaced card meant re-measuring a client from scratch, and studios had no easy way to track which orders were cut, stitched, fitted, or ready for delivery at any given moment.
The core issue was that measurements and order status lived nowhere durable — a client's measurements existed only on a physical card that could be lost, and "order status" was whatever the tailor remembered, not a system anyone else could check. Neither problem gets solved by a generic order-tracking tool, since neither treats measurement profiles as data that outlives a single order.
System Architecture
We modeled Measurement Profiles as their own service, independent from Order Management — a client's measurements get created once and referenced by every future order, rather than re-entered as a field on each new order record. That single modeling decision is what makes "reorder in one tap with saved measurements" possible.
The dashed line between the two services represents the reference, not a copy — the Order & Fitting Service looks up a client's Measurement Profile by ID rather than duplicating measurement data into every order record, so an updated measurement (a client who's changed size) applies going forward without touching historical orders. Order status moves through an explicit stage machine (cut → stitched → fitted → delivered) stored in PostgreSQL, which is what lets staff see exactly where any order sits without asking around. Payments route to Stripe as an external service rather than handling card data directly, keeping PCI compliance scope outside the platform's own database.
Technology Stack
- React Native — one app for studio staff to manage orders and capture measurements, usable on a tablet on the studio floor or in a client's home for a fitting visit
- Node.js — both backend services, chosen for a lightweight fit to the order-lifecycle and profile-lookup work involved
- PostgreSQL — relational storage for orders, measurement profiles, and fitting notes, with foreign-key integrity linking every order back to a specific profile version
- Stripe — deposits, balances, and rush-order surcharges, chosen so the platform never has to handle or store raw card data itself
- AWS — hosting for a product that's typically used by a single studio location or a small regional chain, sized accordingly rather than over-provisioned
Quantifiable Impact
Studios running on this platform stop re-measuring returning clients and stop losing track of where an order sits in production. One design studio grew repeat order volume 3.1x within 12 months as clients found reordering effortless with saved measurements, while the order-to-delivery cycle got 50% faster once staff could see every order's stage at a glance instead of chasing status updates by hand.

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the platform remember a client's measurements for future orders?
Yes. Digital measurement profiles persist across every future order, so returning clients don't need to be re-measured from scratch.
Can I track where an order stands in production?
Yes. Order-stage tracking follows each order from cutting to stitching to fitting to delivery, so staff can see status at a glance instead of chasing updates by hand.
Does it handle payments and deposits?
Yes. Integrated payments cover deposits, balances, and rush-order surcharges as part of the order flow, not a separate manual step.
Why is the measurement profile a separate service from order management?
A client's measurements outlive any single order — they get reused across every future purchase. Modeling them as their own service, rather than a field on an order record, is what makes instant reordering with saved measurements possible.
